Our team

Nikki Best

With over twenty seven years’ experience and knowledge in the childcare field.

Best Childcare Forest School Nursery is a passion I share with my husband Peter as we both knew with our wealth of qualifications and experiences in the childcare field we would create a unique Nursery, yet responsive and tailored to meet the needs of the families within the Leeds area.

Prior to this I was an Ofsted inspector for five years, I have also worked in the private, voluntary and statutory sector as both Nursery Nurse, Deputy Manager, Manager and Registration and Inspection Officer.

I strive to deliver outstanding childcare to all our families and enjoy implementing my wealth of experience into our daily nursery life, ensuring children achieve the best possible outcomes on their individual learning journey.

Peter Best
Managing Director

I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1989 with the aspiration to create a warm and caring environment for children which would allow me to support them in reaching their full potential.

Initially I was employed by Leeds City Council as a Nursery Nurse. After several years I was then employed within the NHS, coordinating childcare for NHS staff. Following this I worked in an advisory role working for Leeds City Council supporting nurseries, playgroups, play schemes, schools and many other providers in creating quality childcare and education environments.

I now have five daughters aged ten years to 23, and they continue to inspire me to provide outstanding childcare services and a secure foundation for all children to grow into strong, confident individuals.

My role within the company is to inspire my staff towards being creative in their delivery, nurturing in their care of children and for them to continuously strive for the best possible outcomes for children.

Katrina Vaughan
Operations Nursery Manager

I am a highly qualified and passionate professional with over thirteen years childcare experience.

I am committed to providing the highest quality of care using my vast range of qualifications including a Master Degree in Childcare, BA Honours in Dance Performance, Early Years Teachers Status and Level three in Playwork, Health and Safety. I am also a qualified Forest School Practitioner and recently worked towards being an advanced Safeguarding officer.

What I love most about my job are the children; they don’t judge you …love you as you are…make you smile every day and have the ability to make you laugh and cry in the same breath. Children enable you to remember how to have mindless fun.. and most of all it is one of the most rewarding jobs where every day is different.

Amy Joad
Assistant Manager

As the Assistant Manager I provide support in the overall leadership and management of the setting, and lead on all aspects of nursery provision, including the delivery of the EYFS.

I believe that every child has the right to play, and this is something which is at the heart of my practice since qualifying in a BA honours in Playwork.

I have worked with Best Childcare in numerous settings, managing and leading the teams in outstanding practice to ensure thrilling, challenging and nurturing experiences are offered to all children from as young as babies to early teens.

As a qualified Forest School Practitioner I love to build fires with the children in Nursery and the local woods, to cook different foods, share stories and enjoy warm drinks together.

I believe that love and family matter, which is at the core of our Nursery ethos and that every child and family feel this as they walk through our front gate.

All children are inspiring, and it is my role as the Early Years Teacher to support them in their continuous learning and progression whist recognising the unique needs of every child.

Sarah Wheeler
Out of school club Manager/ co ordinator

I am an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with a wealth of childcare experiences. My qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Childhood studies, a Batchelor of Science in Physical activity, exercise and health.

I am passionate about play and the importance of physical exercise on children’s well-being.

For me the most rewarding aspect of the job is being part of the children’s experiences both indoors and outdoors and being able to support their learning and development through their primary years into young adults.
